I purchased this doll from the original family years ago at a midwest estate sale. It is a large black haired china head lady with beautiful pale blue eyes looking upward, and a very unusual center part High curled hair style. TODAY I saw a circa 1880 Ludwig Greiner paper mache doll with THIS hair style and the same upward looking eyes! I had always mistaken her for a fancy low forehead doll but that is clearly not the same. Particularly see back of hair. Gorgeous condition of painting still overall for her age. 10 stamped on shoulder plate.
Last photo shows the Paper Mache LG doll for comparison. Great match imo.
She is 28" tall. Has a cloth original body with cloth arms and legs. Has original black cotton leg stockings. She wears original antique layered slip and matching pantaloons that I would probably soak in restoration powder if I were going to keep her but I am downsizing slowly my rather huge doll collection. Will leave cleaning of the clothes to buyer. Use a gentle product like Restoration powder in warm water, soak, rinse squeeze and roll in towel then iron when dry. NO bleach or oxi! For her flannel jacket I would use eucalan soak or similar product for fragiles/wool.
She has a beautiful ecru lacy dress and a similar colored antique wool flannel jacket with lovely details, a bit worn/moth holes on back with stain. Overall she displays beautifully as you can see, a big gorgeous gal with great upward gazing eyes! Rare to find a family owned completely unchanged china head doll from the 19th Century and a slightly different than usual hairstyle. Most likely circa 1880. No issues. A GREAT DOLL for this price!
She ships from my smoke free home. Re shipping, I will bend her at waist and try for a squarish box rather than a long box, to save on shipping.
